Hokies Recruiting: Virginia Tech is in the Top 6 for Four-Star WR Ahmir Mitchell

The Virginia Tech Hokies have gotten off to a very strong start on the recruiting trail with eight commits led by borderline four-star prospects in QB Logan Byrd of Kathleen, Georgia and athlete Reggie Floyd of Manassas, Virginia. The Hokies already have eight commits with six of them being from outside of Virginia which is very impressive. However, the Hokies still have plenty of big name targets that they are after, and have been included in the top 6 for one of those guys. https://twitter.com/TheDeuce_2_Nice/status/573995291197702145 The Hokies are one of the six teams that are on this list for four-star athlete Ahmir Mitchell of Cedar Creek High School in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Mitchell will most likely be a wide receiver at the collegiate level and would be a very good addition to the Virginia Tech passing game if he came to Blacksburg. It is notable that this list is in order of where each of these teams currently stand for Ahmir Mitchell. It is notable that Rutgers is the leader, but the fact that they are the only team to receive a visit so far means that it is fairly wide open. However, the Hokies being as far up as they are on this list definitely shows that they are contenders to get one of New Jersey's top prospects. Rutgers is definitely the frontrunner due to the in-state advantage, but Ohio State and Notre Dame are definitely serious contender along with the Hokies. Ole Miss and Michigan seem like the longshots though Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines seem like a potential sleeping giant on the recruiting trail that could emerge very soon. The Hokies have had some success in New Jersey previously when they got Billy Ray Mitchell and Tyrell Smith from the Class of 2014 though Smith ended up in the Class of 2015 after going to prep school in Massachusetts. Virginia Tech has improve their recruiting recently largely due to how Whit Babcock has led the Hokies to bringing in a talented recruiting staff led by Thomas Guerry. Cornell Brown also deserves credit for getting the Hokies into the top 6 for Mitchell. Brown has never been an elite recruiter, but has been reliable in the 757 and now has the Hokies in the running to get a big out-of-state target. A big factor that could be very important for the Hokies' chances is the impact of Zohn Burden on Mitchell's recruitment. Burden has been well liked by just about every wide receiver that has visited Blacksburg and if the Hokies can get Mitchell to Blacksburg, Burden will have his chance to make his pitch to Mitchell which could be valuable. The Hokies are right in the hunt for four-star athlete Ahmir Mitchell, and have a solid chance at getting the New Jersey recruit to come to Blacksburg.
