Hokies Recruiting: Three-Star OT Patrick Kearns Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking to have a recruiting surge entering the fall, and it seemed to start when 2016 OLB Emmanuel Belmar and 2017 DB Devante Smith committed to the Hokies earlier this week. However, Frank Beamer and company were preparing for this weekend for a big opportunity for recruits to come visit Blacksburg and maybe get some commitments. The good news is that strategy is working. Three-star offensive tackle Patrick Kearns of Darlington School in Rome, Georgia committed to the Hokies. Kearns has 19 offers from plenty of major programs including Georgia Tech, Florida, California, Kentucky, and Indiana but chose to commit to Stacy Searels and the Hokies. Kearns is rated as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and a two-star recruit by Rivals. Kearns is ranked as the 66th best offensive tackle by the 247 Sports traditional rankings and 95th best by the 247 Sports Composite. Kearns is an under-the-radar offensive tackle that is in the athletic build that the Hokies desire in their offensive line. Kearns will need to bulk up some from his current 270 pounds, but definitely seems like another solid addition for the Hokies' offensive line class. Kearns is the second 2016 offensive linemen to commit to the Hokies joining 757 OT Thomas Jarrett Hopple. Kearns had become one of the top targets for Stacy Searels who also just had highly-regarded four-star offensive tackle Landon Dickerson on campus. Searels is doing a very good job rebuilding the Hokies' offensive line into one that can be a part of a resurgence. Patrick Kearns is a good addition to a Virginia Tech recruiting class that has had a strong surge in growth this week.
