Since it is gameday, we are not going to give away our picks for tonight's game against the Buckeyes, but instead we are going to look at the 11 games that the Hokies are guaranteed after the rematch tonight.
On Saturday, the Hokies should get their first or second win of the season as Virginia Tech faces Furman. This will be a great chance to get young players plenty of playing time including guys like Adonis Alexander, Yosuah Nijman, Mook Reynolds, and Dwayne Lawson in what will be an easy win.
The Hokies close out their non-conference schedule with back-to-back road games against Purdue and East Carolina. Purdue is still one of the worst teams in the Big 10 while East Carolina is not going to be nearly as good this year after losing quarterback Shane Carden, and wide receivers Justin Hardy and Cam Worthy.
There is a chance that the Hokies could be pushed some if they aren't careful, but Virginia Tech will finish off the non-conference schedule with back-to-back wins.
Virginia Tech opens ACC play at home against a Pittsburgh team that has gotten weaker after losing running back James Conner for the season. The Panthers won't be the same, and the Hokies will cruise to what will be either their fourth or fifth straight victory.
The Hokies have their second guaranteed home night game on a Friday night against N.C. State six days after Pitt. The Wolfpack have the potential to be undefeated going into this game and have a very talented quarterback in Jacoby Brissett. Once again, the Hokies will be tested, but Bud Foster's defense will shine under the lights and Virginia Tech will get the job done.
Eight days later, Virginia Tech faces a trip to Miami against a Hurricanes team with talent at the quarterback spot in Brad Kaaya. However, the Hokies will have revenge on their minds after the Canes humiliated the Hokies under the lights in Blacksburg last season. Virginia Tech will have a dominant performance and continue their strong run, while starting to rise into the playoff hunt.
Weird things have happened in Boston before and the Eagles will be ready for this game against the Hokies. Boston College shocked the Hokies last year, and Virginia Tech will have to make sure they avoid an upset. Don't be surprised if an upset happens here, but I'm leaning towards the Hokies winning this one.
Virginia Tech will not want to lose again to Justin Thomas and Georgia Tech while also likely knowing that a win could just about put them in the ACC Championship. Bud Foster's bear defense will contain Thomas, but this game is another toss-up that could go either way.
Virginia Tech's final home game comes against North Carolina, and Marquise Williams will put up some points for the Tar Heels. However, Michael Brewer will do a good enough job against a slightly-improved UNC defense under Gene Chizik, and protect Lane Stadium.
The Hokies play Virginia to end the season, and Virginia Tech will come into this game wanting to make sure they easily take care of business. The Commonwealth Cup streak will be extended to 12 games in convincing fashion as the Hokies book their way into the ACC Championship against Clemson.
The final prediction for the record is that the Hokies will win at least 10 regular season games with only one ACC loss against either Boston College or Georgia Tech. However, if Virginia Tech beats Ohio State, don't be surprised if they enter the ACC Championship undefeated.
