Hokies Football: Brandon Facyson's Chance For Redemption Against East Carolina

Entering the 2014 season, many believed that the Hokies had the best duo of starting cornerbacks in college football with sophomores Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson. Fuller had a great season despite having a broken wrist, and was dominant in every game including against East Carolina in shutting down whatever receiver he was covering at the time. However, Facyson was still injured and after not doing too bad in the first two games, it caught up to him against the Pirates. East Carolina QB Shane Carden noticed early that Facyson was clearly injured, and went after him with big wide receiver Cam Worthy lined up against him. Worthy had an incredible game with 6 receptions for 224 receiving yards and an average of 37.3 yards per reception with most of this coming when Facyson was covering him. This game exposed Facyson's injury that would end his season and lead to a medical redshirt, but it was still a nightmare of a game for the cornerback from Georgia. Now, Brandon Facyson is actually healthy, and has gained more and more confidence with every game just in time to face the Pirates once again, this time on the road in front of a sellout crowd. East Carolina does not have as good of a passing attack as they did last season, but the Pirates always are ready to take risks with their aerial attack. Even though Facyson was injured during last year's game, the redshirt sophomore cornerback will be looking for some revenge to prove that he is not only healthy, but is back to being one of the best cornerbacks in the ACC and the country. Davon Grayson and Jimmy Williams are not as talented as Cam Worthy, and a healthy Facyson should be able to contain whichever guy he is on depending on whoever is playing better if the Hokies decide to put Kendall Fuller on ECU's top pass catcher, slot WR Isaiah Jones, instead of nickel cornerback Greg Stroman. The fact that this game is also a fairly high-profile Saturday afternoon game on ABC in some markets will only fire up Facyson more to make a statement against the team that made him look bad even with his injury. Facyson seems poised to have a big game within the next few weeks, and this very well could be that moment. Brandon Facyson may have been injured when the Hokies faced East Carolina last season, but he will want revenge this time after having the worst game of his career last year. No one should be surprised if Facyson goes out and has a dominant performance against an East Carolina offense that is definitely not as talented as the Pirates' offense last season.
