Hokies Recruiting: Four-Star CB Khalil Ladler Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have had a dry spell on the recruiting trail for the last few weeks, but have built a solid foundation for their recruiting class led by four wide receiver commits and QB Joshua Jackson, who is in the ESPN 300. The Hokies have also found some intriguing defensive backs led by athletic CB Troy Pride Jr. who is ranked as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports. However, the Hokies just gained their first commitment from a player that is an overall four-star recruit. https://twitter.com/Ladd___/status/650744482833502208 Four-star cornerback Khalil Ladler of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies over a multitude of SEC programs led by LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama. Ladler took an official visit to the Hokies this past weekend, and clearly that visit went extremely with most fans not having Ladler on their radar before this weekend. Khalil Ladler is seen as a four-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals, and the 247 Sports Composite with Rivals ranking him as the 185th best recruit in the country and the 247 Sports Composite ranking him 298th. Among cornerbacks, Ladler is ranked as the 25th best cornerback by ESPN, 27th best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 14th best by Rivals. Ladler is ranked as the 27th best recruit in the Sunshine State by Rivals, 46th best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 62nd best by ESPN. Torrian Gray was the primary recruiter for Ladler, and has done a tremendous job of stealing a four-star cornerback away from top SEC school and Florida State. Gray's presence as arguably the best defensive backs coach in college football along with the early playing time for Adonis Alexander and Mook Reynolds may have helped the Hokies a lot in getting Ladler. Most Hokie fans including myself hadn't really heard much about Khalil Ladler until within the last week when we heard that Ladler was going to take an official visit to Blacksburg. Then, Evan Watkins of VTScoop predicted that the Hokies would get Ladler with many wondering where Ladler had come from. However, Ladler is a fantastic pickup for the Hokies that gives the Hokies a lot of momentum in trying to get other top targets including four-star OT Landon Dickerson, four-star TE Jovani Haskins, four-star OG Richard Merritt, and four-star DE Nick Coe. Despite a disappointing weekend on the field, the Hokies have gained a lot off-the-field with the commitment of Khalil Ladler who now headlines the Virginia Tech Class of 2016. The question now is can the Hokies hold on to Ladler and right now, that seems very likely especially after Ladler committed on a cold, wet weekend with it seeming very likely now that this will be Frank Beamer's last season.
