Hokies Football: Game Predictions for Virginia Tech vs. N.C. State

Gameday has arrived in Blacksburg as Hokie fans are desperate to see the Virginia Tech Hokies right the ship after a 2-3 start. Tonight, the N.C. State Wolfpack visit Blacksburg for the first time since the days of Russell Wilson and Tyrod Taylor in an ACC matchup between two teams that both lost their ACC openers at home last week. This week, The Tech Lunch Pail has two guest picks. We have the Treadmill Horse and C Gally of The North Endzone. Now, let's get to the picks.

Treadmill Horse

I’m going to start picking against the Hokies until they show me that they’re not a bottom feeder ACC team. I would used to say that a night game at Lane Stadium is a cure for what ails you. Now I’m not so sure. Here’s to hoping that we see some life from the offense and that the defense has found the lunch pail. If not, it’s probably another week of one possession loss misery. Prediction: NC State 24, Virginia Tech 17 You can check out Treadmill Horse's full preview right here.

C Gally of The North Endzone

Hokies come out absolutely on fire in the run game and quadruple rushing productivity from last week. Counting those 36 yards and AT LEAST another 60 from our passing game, the offense scores exactly no points on the day. Defense scores twice and sets up another field goal to win 17-13. Prediction: Virginia Tech 17, NC State 13 Check out The North Endzone's full preview right here.

The Hokies need a win coming into this Friday Nights Lights matchup with the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Both the Hokies and Wolfpack are looking for their first ACC wins of 2015 with it arguably being a must-win for both teams within their respective ACC divisions. Jacoby Brissett is one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC, but had his worst game of the season last week against the Wolfpack's first power 5 conference opponent. However, Brissett has thrown no interceptions so far this season, but Brandon Facyson and Chuck Clark will be ready to make some plays though Brissett will do some damage. Andrew Motuapuaka made some big plays last week with two forced fumbles and his mobility should only be better this week. Motuapuaka has great instincts and will be in charge of trying to help contain Matthew Dayes and the N.C. State rushing attack. The good news is that Brissett is not that mobile of a quarterback, and the Hokies have done well against some solid opposing running backs. It is unknown if Michael Brewer will play tonight, but the Hokies' chances are much better with him. Brewer has proven that he can take advantage of Virginia Tech's talented group of receivers led by Isaiah Ford who is having an All-ACC level season. However, Virginia Tech needs the offensive line to improve a lot against a N.C. State team that is looking for sacks. The Hokies need to find a running back that is doing well and stick with him along with avoiding the obvious jet sweep runs that failed last week. Expect the Hokies to also use Brenden Motley some as a runner whether he is the starter or he gets used in the "Wild Turkey" offense. Hokie Nation is desperate and the environment will be fantastic as usual for night games in Blacksburg. The question is can this team step up and get a much-needed win to begin salvaging the season? Tonight, the Hokies will take a step in the positive direction though it will be a close game throughout. Prediction: Virginia Tech 24, NC State 20
