With most expecting an announcement Sunday or Monday from Virginia Tech about the head coach, the rumors have been picking up. Yesterday, a report from Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde suggested that Justin Fuente to Virginia Tech was almost a done deal while we heard an unconfirmed rumor about a flight from Blacksburg to an airport 30 minutes from Memphis.
Meanwhile, Justin Fuente seems to dodge questions about whether he has been talking to Whit Babcock and Virginia Tech.

Today, there has been a new report from Kyle Bailey, host of The Clubhouse with Kyle Bailey on SuperSports 101.7.

Many likely had brushed Tom Herman off with many rumors suggesting that he was going to be the next head coach at South Carolina. However, Herman is apparently no longer in the picture at South Carolina.

The fact that Herman is standing pat may also suggest that Herman is preparing to stay at Houston for another year or has his eyes on the situations at Georgia and LSU along with the opening out west at USC. However, this could also be a sign that things have changed between the Hokies and Herman.
Right now, it still seems like Fuente is the most likely person to be the next head coach of the Hokies, but that doesn't seem as certain now. There have also been enough rumors still about Dan Mullen and Chad Morris that both of those names can't be ruled out just yet. However, what has been clear for days now is that Larry Fedora will not be the next Virginia Tech head coach.
What happens next remains to be seen, but don't be surprised if Whit Babcock makes an announcement on Sunday or Monday. It also still would not be surprising if there is already a deal in place with someone, most likely Fuente, but this seems likely to be a wild few days for Hokie fans.
