Hokies Football: Bud Foster Will Return in 2016 as Virginia Tech's Defensive Coordinator

During Virginia Tech's victory over Virginia, reports broke that Justin Fuente was going to be the next head coach, and that Bud Foster would be staying in Blacksburg as the defensive coordinator. After the win, Whit Babcock said that nothing was official, but that changed the following day when the Hokies announced that Fuente was the next head coach. However, that wasn't the only notable thing that Virginia Tech announced. The Virginia Tech Hokies also announced that long-time defensive coordinator Bud Foster would stay at Virginia Tech in the same capacity under Fuente. Many speculated that Foster would likely move on with the change in leadership, but the veteran defensive coordinator has been convinced to stay in Blacksburg, and is united with Fuente to turn the Hokies around. Foster's defense this season started off disappointing, but has played better over the past month with the Hokies not giving up nearly as many points recently. Virginia Tech's defense has also been plagued by a couple injuries including one to Preseason All-American CB Kendall Fuller plus inexperience at the mike linebacker spot, which is critical in Foster's defense. Foster has always had great defenses, and putting him with a talented offensive coach in Fuente seems like a great recipe for bringing Virginia Tech back to the top of the ACC, and put the Hokies in the national conversation for a playoff spot in the future. Foster likely will get to retain to of his long-time assistants in Charley Wiles and Torrian Gray while also likely being fairly involved in recruiting right now before the Hokies get down to the meat of their bowl preparations. Foster will likely focus on some of Virginia Tech's top targets and defensive commits while Fuente gets to know all of the current Virginia Tech commits and top targets. Having Bud Foster back will help make the transition smoother while giving Fuente the chance to work with college football's best defensive coordinator. Many fans were hoping that Foster would end up being the head coach, but having him as the defensive coordinator with Fuente as the head coach will make just about every Hokie fan excited for the future.
