Hokies Football: Three-Star OLB Victor Greene Decommits From Virginia Tech

Yesterday, Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech Hokies received some very good news on the recruiting trail when three-star WR Phillip Patterson announced his decision to recommit to the Hokies after decommitting from Virginia Tech about a month ago. However, the Hokies received some disappointing news today from one player who was committed. https://twitter.com/VTScoop247/status/674303487967039489 Three-star outside linebacker Victor Greene of Courtland High School in Spotsylvania, Virginia decommitted from the Virginia Tech Hokies today. Greene was rated as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, and a two-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals, which may be due to the fact that Greene will shift to OLB in college most likely, but is currently running back mainly at the high school level. The decommitment of Greene is definitely a surprise, but the door still seems to be open for him to recommit to the Hokies depending on circumstances. https://twitter.com/AlexKomaVT/status/674308195213557760 When talking to Greene, we heard the same thing that The Key Play's Alex Koma was told by Greene. https://twitter.com/AlexKomaVT/status/674306318363205633 When asked about whether he felt he would still be on scholarship at Virginia Tech, Greene told us, "Yes I didn't feel like I'd be on a scholarship there." The lack of communication between Virginia Tech and Greene to assure him that he will be on scholarship at VT is disappointing though something may have changed that is more significant. What is disappointing is the fact that a Virginia Tech commit did not feel certain about his scholarship status with the program. Part of this is probably due to the lack of communication that hopefully will change for Greene and the Hokies in the coming days whether there is still mutual interest or not. At this point, it does not seem likely at all that Greene will be a Hokie though things on the recruiting trail can change quickly. For the Hokies and Greene, the best situation for both seems to be separate with Greene's playing time odds not looking as good in Blacksburg while Greene's decommitment gives the Hokies an extra scholarship. Will Victor Greene end up back in Blacksburg? That seems unlikely right now, and that may be for the best for both sides with Greene going somewhere that has more interest in him, and Justin Fuente and the Hokies getting an extra scholarship for the Class of 2016.
