Hokies Football: Deon Clarke, Kevin Asante, Demitri Knowles Suspended For 2015 Independence Bowl

The Virginia Tech Hokies arrive in Shreveport, Louisiana yesterday for the 2015 Independence Bowl after Frank Beamer led his final practice in Blacksburg as Virginia Tech's head coach. However, just because this is Beamer's last game doesn't mean that he isn't willing to dish out some discipline when it's needed. Today, we learned that Beamer has doled out three career-ending suspensions. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/680110077525622784 https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/680110333537554432 The careers of Deon Clarke, Kevin Asante, and Demitri Knowles are over after the trio of players were suspended for the 2015 Independence Bowl due to team violations. Knowles missed meeting before the Hokies left for Shreveport and did not make the trip while Clarke and Asante will be headed back to Blacksburg. For all three players, this is very disappointing given not only the fact that this is their last collegiate game, but is also the last game of the Frank Beamer era. This should be a wakeup call for these three guys for whatever they do after their collegiate football careers whether it be in football or not. Losing Asante and Knowles will have no impact on the Hokies' approach while Clarke's suspension means that freshman Tremaine Edmunds will start in his place. The freshman Edmunds is not as good as Clarke, but has gained some defensive playing time including a start against Georgia Tech with Clarke suspended for the first quarter. This game will be a great chance for Edmunds to get some experience against a talented Tulsa offense, but definitely takes a way a talented blitzing linebacker that would have been very dangerous against Tulsa's pourous offensive line. Edmunds will have a chance to build some momentum against Tulsa with him most likely being a starter in 2016. For Clarke, this likely will make it more difficult for him if he decides to pursue a career in the NFL. Clarke was already likely to go undrafted, but it may now be harder for teams to even bring him in for a tryout after this incident. For these three seniors, this is a stupid mistake that won't affect Knowles and Asante with that duo not having a future in the NFL. However, this likely will affect Clarke and may make NFL teams ask more questions when considering whether to give him a tryout or not.
