Hokies Football: Two-Star OLB Eron Carter Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies made some late offers for players all across the East Coast and Southeast with one of those players becoming Virginia Tech's first new commit on National Signing Day in athlete Tyree Rodgers. Now, the Hokies have gained another commitment from a late offer. Two-star linebacker Eron Carter of Palatka High School in Palatka, Florida committed to the Hokies officially this morning. Carter was the only power 5 conference to offer Carter with the two-star linebacker having a multitude of offers from schools in Group of 5 conferences with Massachusetts being the biggest challenger. Carter is ranked as the 164th best outside linebacker and 362nd best recruit in Florida, but already has good size for a linebacker at 6'2'' and 230 pounds. Carter had 19 offers overall, but all of them were from non-power 5 conference schools other than his Virginia Tech offer. Carter is an intelligent athlete with Virginia Tech's computer engineering program actually helping lock down his commitment. The impact of getting to play for and be coached by Bud Foster also had to be a big boost along with the fact that the Hokies were the only power 5 conference program to offer Carter. For the Hokies, Justin Fuente and his staff got the job done in a situation they were expected to, but adding a Florida commit never hurts in turns of helping the new staff build more connections in Florida. Carter will likely be redshirted next fall for the Hokies as someone that may be a mike linebacker that Bud Foster wants to develop with Andrew Motuapuaka, Carson Lydon, and Sean Huelskamp already having the top 3 spots locked down. Eron Carter is a solid addition from Florida with a lot of upside, but was not expected to be one of the highlight commitments of the day in what has been a disappointing National Signing Day overall for the Hokies. However, Carter definitely has the potential to be a big steal for the Hokies at the linebacker spot.
