Hokies Football: Four-Star DT Eric Crosby Commits to Tennessee Over Virginia Tech

Today is the beginning of a big recruiting weekend for the Virginia Tech Hokies with Justin Fuente and his staff hosting around an estimated 50-70 recruits this weekend for the Spring Game. After gaining two 2017 commits within the last week in three-star athletes Caleb Farley and Dalton Keene, the Hokies were looking to continue that recruiting momentum over the weekend and it started with the addition of three-star TE Drake Deluliis. However, that recruiting momentum has taken a hit. Four-star defensive tackle Eric Crosby of Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Crosby has offers from many other major programs outside of Virginia Tech and Tennessee including Florida State, Clemson, Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Penn State, West Virginia, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and N.C. State. Crosby is a top player in Virginia and across the country as he is ranked third in Virginia and 112th nationally by the 247 Sports Composite, fourth in Virginia and 120th nationally by ESPN, and sixth in the Commonwealth plus 124th nationally by Rivals. Crosby is also one of the top DTs in America as the 247 Sports Composite ranks him as the sixth best DT, ESPN ranks him ninth, and Rivals ranks him eighth. For the Hokies, this a very disappointing loss for the new staff as while the Hokies were playing a catch-up game, Virginia Tech had put themselves in a good position but just weren't able to close the deal. However, you can expect that Justin Fuente and his staff will definitely look to figure out what made the difference for Crosby along with likely still staying in contact with him and seeing if they can try to flip him at a later date. What started out as an exciting day has become one of disappointment with Crosby committing to the Vols over the Hokies. However, don't be surprised if the mood flips quite quickly tomorrow.
