Hokies Football: Two-Star WR Kalil Pimpleton Commits to Virginia Tech

Since the weekend of the Spring Game, the Virginia Tech Hokies have been quiet on the recruiting trail with no new commitments even as they extend new offers and get named the leader or one of the leaders for multiple top recruits. However, the drought of no new recruits ended this afternoon. Two-star wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton of Muskegon High School in Muskegon, Michigan committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies. At this point, Pimpleton only has two FBS offers from Virginia Tech and Eastern Michigan, largely due to the fact that he is only 5'7''. Pimpleton also does not have very many ratings at this point from recruiting services, but is ranked as a two-star wide receiver by 247 Sports who have him specifically as the 187th best wide receiver, 37th best recruit in Michigan, and 1444th best player nationally. However, what is clear about Pimpleton is despite his lack of size, he is the type of dynamic, fast athlete that definitely can make an impact at a high level in multiple ways. Pimpleton knows how to use his small stature to make himself harder for defenders to wrap up and tackle while he has impressive agility along with the ability to quickly accelerate once he finds a little space. Pimpleton also has impressive speed that can make it nearly impossible to chase him down. Pimpleton also has a high motor and great toughness that will help him make an impact in Blacksburg. Pimpleton projects as a potentially dynamic kick returner that will also likely be used out of the slot on quick routes and screens to take advantage of his ability to make plays in space. Pimpleton could also be used some as a wildcat quarterback as someone that has played quarterback in high school even with his size. Holmon Wiggins was the primary recruiter for Pimpleton and while there hasn't been much competition, getting Pimpleton now could help in the Hokies' pursuit of other Michigan targets including three-star CB Donovan Johnson, and Pimpleton's teammate and three-star ILB Andrew Ward. The Hokies have gained another solid commitment in the under-the-radar Kalil Pimpleton whose speed, agility, and high motor make him someone who should be able to make an impact in Blacksburg.
