Hokies Women's Lacrosse: Virginia Tech Head Coach Megan Burker Steps Down

The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse teams has had its fair share of struggles over the last few seasons to say the least as the Hokies have lost 32-straight ACC women's lacrosse games (regular season and tournament) with their last ACC win coming in 2012 at home against a seventh-ranked Virginia team. Despite hosting the ACC Tournament at Lane Stadium just a few weeks ago, the Hokies were defeated pretty easily by the #3 North Carolina Tar Heels. Yes, the ACC is probably the best women's lacrosse conference in the country, but it's become clear that a change is needed and that process started yesterday. https://twitter.com/VT_Lax/status/730199126391009281 Megan Burker has stepped down as head coach and will finish out her contract working in the Virginia Tech athletic administration. Burker had a 46-58 record with only 2 conference wins in 36 games against ACC opponents. Whit Babcock plans on a undergoing a national search though with a baseball coaching change likely also, Babcock may try to finish this search up before the end of the Hokies' baseball season. One name to watch in this search is JMU's Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe who has the Dukes headed to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven seasons along with it being almost certain that the Dukes will finish in the top 25 for the fourth time since 2010. Klaes-Bawcombe is a JMU alum like Whit Babcock, but the chance to coach in the ACC may be too hard to pass up along with the fact that Babcock was able to also poach JMU alum Kenny Brooks away to be the Hokies' women's basketball coach. Virginia Tech women's lacrosse has struggled for years, and the time has definitely come to make a change and see if Virginia Tech can start being competitive in the ACC.
