Hokies Basketball: Four-Star SG/SF Naji Marshall Has Virginia Tech In His Top 5

With one open scholarship spot on the roster left for the 2016-2017 season, Buzz Williams and the Hokies are still trying to fill that final spot with a big man more likely to be the addition of choice. Meanwhile, Williams and his staff are also seriously focusing on building their Class of 2017 which already has a commitment from Canada's top player, four-star guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The Hokies are trending in the right direction for another top 2017 target. Four-star wing Naji Marshall of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland released his top five via Campus Insiders which includes Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Xavier, South Carolina, and Rhode Island. Marshall also has offers from some other well-regarded programs including Cincinnati, Florida State, Rutgers, Temple, UMASS, and VCU. Marshall is ranked as the 97th best recruit, 25th best shooting guard, and second-best Maryland recruit by the 247 Sports Composite while 247 Sports has him as the 76th best recruit, 16th best shooting guard, and second-best recruit in Maryland. Marshall has been one of the top Virginia Tech wing targets in this recruiting class for the Hokies and Marshall recently visited the Hokies and Xavier. Marshall also plans on visiting Pittsburgh soon and while South Carolina and Rhode Island did both make this top five, it seems to be a three-horse race between Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Xavier. If there is a leader out of that group of schools, it may be the Hokies who have been making a push for Marshall for awhile now. Expect Marshall to probably make a decision sometime in the coming months and sign in the early signing period. Naji Marshall has broken through this spring and now has plenty of schools in hot pursuit of him. However, the Hokies seem to be in a very good position to get one of their top targets in the Class of 2017 to join Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
