Hokies Football: Three-Star TE/OL Lecitus Smith Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have been busy lately travelling all over Virginia and the East Coast hosting satellite camps from New Jersey and Georgia with their last one coming in Northern Virginia. However, the Hokies got some big recruiting news today in terms of gaining a new commitment. https://twitter.com/lecitus_smith/status/743171929306079232 Three-star tight end Lecitus Smith of Fitzgerald High School in Fitzgerald, Georgia became the Hokies' 11th commit of the class. Smith is also the third tight end to commit to the Hokies joining Drake Deluliis and Dalton Keene though Smith also has the athleticism and versatility to also move to the offensive line given his size, athleticism, and the fact that Virginia Tech already has two tight end commits. Smith is rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals while 247 Sports, the 247 Sports Composite, and Scout all have Smith as a three-star recruit. Smith is ranked as the 62nd best tight end by the 247 Sports Composite, 52nd best TE by 247 Sports, and 68th best offensive tackle by Scout. Smith is also ranked as the 125th best Georgia recruit by the 247 Sports Composite, 112th best by 247 Sports, and is ranked as the 4th best OT in Georgia by Scout. Smith had plenty of interest from major programs as he is listed as receiving 16 offers by 247 Sports which, in addition to Virginia Tech, includes Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Louisville, N.C. State, USF, and Cincinnati. TEs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator James Shibest was the primary recruiter for Smith who is Shibest's third commit as primary recruiter, joining Caleb Farley and Dalton Keene, though Keene was also heavily recruited by Charley Wiles. Shibest has shown that he has some recruiting chops as he has gotten multiple of his top targets as the primary recruiter. Smith gives the Hokies a versatile athlete who could move from tight end to the offensive line as someone with the size and frame to add weight and be an athletic offensive tackle. Smith gives the Hokies three tight ends in this class and while he is stylistically different from Deluliis and Keene, Smith may still end up on the offensive line especially with his athleticism, frame, and the lack of offensive line commits currently. The Hokies have made another solid addition adding Georgia 3* TE/OL Lecitus Smith to their solid 11-man recruiting class headlined by 4* DE Tyjuan Garbutt.
