Hokies Recruiting: Virginia Tech Three-Star LB Target Jaylen Griffin Decommits From California, Reveals Top 6

This past weekend was a significant recruiting weekend for the Virginia Tech Hokies as they gained commitments from JUCO athlete Henri Murphy and 2017, three-star athlete Malik Willis. The Hokies also hosted multiple other top targets including four-star ATH Bruce Judson, three-star RB Jalen Holston, and three-star LB Jaylen Griffin who entered the weekend to California. However, Griffin's recruitment has changed after his Virginia Tech visit. Jaylen Griffin told us and formally announced this evening that he has decomitted from California, opening up his recruitment after having a great visit to Blacksburg. Griffin had previously raved about his visit to Virginia Tech before today's decision telling us that he was impressed with the coaches and the campus while also saying this about his visit.
Everyone was so involved with making my parents and I feel comfortable and wanted. From the entire coaching staff all the way down to the people who catered our lunch lol, but seriously.
Griffin came away quite impressed with his visit to Blacksburg and told us at that time, while he was still committed to California, that he plans on taking visits to Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, and Louisville this summer while also saying that it was likely he would use two of his five official visits to go to California and Colorado State. Griffin also released his top 6 this evening. https://twitter.com/JaylenGriffin_/status/745723628788973568 Unsurprisingly, the Hokies made the list along with California, Louisville, Boston College, Colorado State, and East Carolina. Griffin is ranked as a two-star recruit by Rivals and a three-star recruit by ESPN and 247 Sports with 247 Sports ranking him as the 40th best OLB, the 247 Sports Composite ranking him as the 75th OLB, and ESPN ranking him as the 57th best OLB. ESPN also ranks Griffin as Georgia's 83rd best recruit while the 247 Sports Composite has him ranked 105th in Georgia and 247 Sports has him 51st among Peachtree State recruits. What's clear is that Jaylen Griffin's visit to Blacksburg significantly shook up his recruitment and with his decommitment from California today, the Hokies seem to now be the frontrunner.
