Hokies Football: DT Harry Lewis Will Transfer From Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have seen a couple notable transfers since Justin Fuente arrived with Trey Edmunds choosing to go to Maryland in the spring and Carson Lydon announcing recently that he is transferring. Now, the Hokies have another player who has decided to transfer away. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/755135300620410880 Andy Bitter of The Roanoke Times broke the news that redshirt freshman DT Harry Lewis has decided to transfer away from Virginia Tech. The decision is a surprise even though Lewis was not expected to play much unless he earned a special teams role after redshirting last fall. Despite not being likely to play this year, Lewis was seen as part of the long term future at defensive tackle as one of two redshirt freshmen scholarship DTs with Tim Settle with Jarrod Hewitt just arriving also. In the short term, the loss of Lewis will have no impact but in the long run, Lewis's transfer leaves a hole in the future defensive tackle rotation that Virginia Tech now will likely look to fill via the Class of 2017. With Lewis's departure, Virginia Tech could try to bring in 2 or 3 defensive tackles this cycle while also sending out more offers to DTs with the Gaddy brothers unlikely to end up in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech also seems likely to up the ante on their recruitment of three-star athlete Elijah Conliffe with their focus on him playing defensive tackle. While the departure of Harry Lewis won't make a difference in 2016, the Hokies now have some work to do to replenish the future at the defensive tackle spot.
