Hokies Football: 2019 CB Tayvion Land Commits to Virginia Tech

This past weekend, the Virginia Tech Hokies built some serious momentum with four public commitments from three-star LB Jaylen Griffin, three-star WR Sean Savoy, three-star OG Aiden Brown, and 2018 WR/ATH Bryce Thompson along with rumors of two big, silent commits that we are still waiting on. That momentum has continued on with a big-time commitment way down the road. https://twitter.com/espntankkk/status/758377613769388032 2019 CB Tayvion Land of Virginia Beach became Virginia Tech's first 2019 commit today in what is the earliest commit for the Hokies in recent memory if not ever. Land currently has offers from Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Maryland but most major programs east of Texas are likely to offer and see if they can find a way to get Land to change his commitment. One really big thing for the Hokies is the fact that Land will be at burgeoning 757 powerhouse Bishop Sullivan which will be loaded with many top recruits at least as long as Chris Scott is the head coach. Land also becomes the first Bishop Sullivan player to commit to Virginia Tech based on one database of past in-state commits though Bishop Sullivan's program was very small before the hiring of Scott. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/758386990450487296 Right now, Land projects to be one of Virginia's top recruits in the Class of 2019 so this definitely goes down as a home run commitment for the Hokies. To back the fact that this will be a big-time talent, Land was named a MaxPreps Freshman All-American last season and seems likely to at least be a mid four-star recruit by the time he's a senior with a definite chance to maybe be a five-star recruit. This is a big get for the Hokies. For Land's primary recruiter Zohn Burden, this is a statement that he is one of the top recruiters in the 757 and a force to be reckoned with. Burden has been a rising name in the 757 since his time at Old Dominion and the Hokies seem to have an emerging big-time recruiter that Virginia Tech can rely on in Virginia's most talented region. Tayvion Land's commitment to the Hokies is a game-changing, home run pickup for the Hokies that gives the Hokies even more recruiting momentum all-around and in the 757. With two silent commits still out there and another fairly big recruiting weekend coming up, Virginia Tech is having one of its most successful recruiting runs in a long time.
