Hokies Football: 2018 Four-Star QB DeJuan Ellis Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies got off to a good start with the Class of 2018 when they gained a commitment from three-star WR/ATH Bryce Thompson who committed at Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg Bash a week and a half ago. However, the Hokies have continued to grow their 2018 class with the addition of a big time four-star recruit.

Four-star QB DeJuan Ellis from the Washington D.C. area became Virginia Tech’s second commit of the Class of 2018. Ellis is listed by 247 Sports as having 6 offers from Virginia Tech, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Temple though that list will likely continue to grow more throughout the fall as Ellis is a very talented athlete and QB.

Ellis is ranked as the 241st best recruit and ninth best dual-threat quarterback by the 247 Sports Composite while Scout ranks him as the 218th best recruit and 20th best QB. Ellis’s recruitment may be hurt in part because he is only 5’11’ which just shows how impressive his athletic and arm talent is given his size.

Ellis is a big-time recruiting get for the Hokies as a top quarterback target for Virginia Tech in the Class of 2018. Ellis is a quarterback that Virginia Tech can start building their class around as the Hokies have done to an extent with Hendon Hooker in the Class of 2017.

Ellis is an extremely impressive athlete that has 4.4 40 speed and has the makings of a very dangerous mobile threat with that type of athleticism. Ellis apparently has a lot of arm talent and has the skills to be a talented quarterback though if he doesn’t work at the QB spot, Ellis’s athleticism makes him someone that could also move to wide receiver and be a dangerous weapon.

Brad Cornelsen was the primary recruiter for Ellis and while Cornelsen has mostly been recruiting quarterbacks, the offensive coordinator and QBs coach has consistently been able to get his guys whether it was Hooker or Ellis. Cornelsen’s recruiting impact may not be big in numbers but it has been big in the talent that Cornelsen has gotten to commit with Hooker and Ellis in addition to Jerod Evans.

DeJuan Ellis is another big pickup for the Hokies as Virginia Tech continues to build on the recruiting momentum they gained from the Blacksburg Bash.
