Hokies Football: Marshawn Williams, Jahque Alleyne Will Miss Multiple Games

The biggest news out of Justin Fuente's most recent press conference was about Fuente naming Jerod Evans the starting QB but that wasn't the only big news Fuente revealed. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/768933790123192320 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/768933864798556164 Justin Fuente told media that RB Marshawn Williams will miss the first two weeks of the season while DB Jahque Alleyne will be out for the first four games. Fuente did not delve into any details with regards as to why Williams and Alleyne will miss these amount of games, meaning that it is not due to injury reasons. Fuente also mentioned that it was not any sort of criminal issue, meaning that it's likely an academic issue or a significant violation of team rules that will have Williams and Alleyne both out for multiple games. With neither player being a starter or having a big role, the impact should be minimal on the Hokies over the first two to four games of the season. Williams has the potential to be a short-yardage back for the Hokies but Virginia Tech also has Sam Rogers and Steven Peoples as their primary power runners. Meanwhile, Jahque Alleyne being out four games may end up being a good thing for the Hokies after Alleyne played in a limited role on special teams as a true freshman, opening the door for Virginia Tech to do what they should have done last year and redshirt him. The Hokies have veteran Der'Woun Greene who can be the top backup safety along with Adonis Alexander having the versatility to play at safety if need be. While both of these players missing games is unfortunate for them, this could end up being a blessing in disguise for the Hokies by giving them a chance to redshirt Jahque Alleyne as they should have done last season.
