This past Monday, Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech Hokies announced that in honor of legendary coach Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech would give Beamer's #25 jersey to the special teams player of the week. Today, the Hokies announced who would wear the #25 for the season opener against the Liberty Flames.

Justin Fuente announced that walk-on running back Steven Peoples will wear the #25 jersey against Liberty. Peoples has tremendous work ethic and has worked hard to move ahead of some very talented on-scholarship running backs. Peoples has been a hard-working player on and off the field that not only will play on special teams but also will likely get some snaps as a power running back that can be hard to bring down.
Peoples getting the jersey is also somewhat appropriate as Peoples, like Beamer, is a Southwest Virginia native as Peoples shined at Galax High School in Galax, Virginia before walking on for the Hokies. It's also appropriate that a walk-on is the guy especially since Beamer was able to find a fair share of talented walk-ons to step up and become difference makers.
Congrats to Steven Peoples on being the first Hokie to get to wear the #25 jersey this season.
