Hokies Football: LB Jamieon Moss Has Left the Football Team

Depth has been a concern throughout the offseason and opening weeks at the linebacker spot with Carson Lydon transferring, Trent Young going down for the season due to injury, and Raymon Minor briefly left the team before rejoining the roster not long after as a walk-on. However, the Hokies have lost a top backup linebacker after the Battle at Bristol. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/775784331507826689 Redshirt junior linebacker Jamieon Moss has decided to leave the football team but is still enrolled at Virginia Tech. At this point, it is unknown if Moss will consider transferring after this semester as he may be looking to finishing his degree before leaving so that he can immediately play next fall. Moss was the backup at the backer spot for the Hokies though any chance of starting seemed very unlikely unless a major injury to a couple linebackers that were ahead of him. The departure of Moss does open up another scholarship but also takes away more of Virginia Tech's linebacker depth. After practice, Bud Foster talked about who may step into the backup backer role now that Moss is gone. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/775836932790218752 Tavante Beckett will most likely be listed as the backup backer next week though he may not be the first one in with Foster likely to be more apt to bring in someone more experienced like Anthony Shegog first. However, Foster mentioned before the season that he expects Beckett to play some not only on special teams but also on defense so no one should be surprised if he gets a few defensive snaps on Saturday against Boston College. The departure of Jamieon Moss is another hit to Virginia Tech's linebacker but the Hokies will look to freshman Tavante Beckett to step up and fill the void behind Tremaine Edmunds.
