Hokies Football: RB Deshawn McClease is Out For the Season

The arrival of Justin Fuente brought opportunities for plenty of younger players to have a chance to gain a bigger role on the team especially on the offensive side of the ball. One player who stepped up throughout the offseason was Deshawn McClease who emerged as the top running back option behind Travon McMillian and Sam Rogers. McClease had 27 rushing yards on 8 carries against Liberty before surprisingly not playing against Tennessee. Now we know the reason for McClease's absence. https://twitter.com/RickyLaBlue/status/776543037883346945 Deshawn McClease is out for the season with what is being said to be an upper extremity injury. While the loss of McClease is disappointing and a hit to Virginia Tech's running back depth, the Hokies do have Marshawn Williams returning this week. McClease emerged as the top backup behind Rogers and McMillian with a likely role as a third-down back who could be effective in the passing game or be used as a change-of-pace speed back. McClease still has 3 years of eligibility remaining left but this is still a disappointing loss of a player who looked quite good this spring.
