Hokies Football: Joey Slye Will Wear #25 Against Syracuse

The Virginia Tech Hokies have seen the #25 jersey quickly become not only a great way to honor Frank Beamer but a great tradition that has been embraced by players, coaches, and fans. So far, the Hokies have not given the #25 jersey to a pure special teams specialist but that will change this week at Syracuse. https://twitter.com/CoachFuente/status/786639419310804992 Justin Fuente has given the #25 jersey to Joey Slye for the Hokies' Saturday afternoon game in the Carrier Dome against Syracuse. Slye has definitely earned the #25 jersey after making both of his field goals last week in terrible conditions while also having 5 touchbacks from his 7 kickoffs. Those numbers are quite good for the junior kicker and he is definitely well-deserving of receiving the honor of wearing the #25 jersey against Syracuse. Joey Slye is the first special teams specialist to receive the #25 jersey this season with Greg Stroman not counting in this category due to his role as one of the Hokies' main cornerbacks. Slye has brought the type of work ethic that Beamer and Fuente have both desired after earning a scholarship as a freshman while beating out an on-scholarship kicker for the starting job in 2014. Congrats to Joey Slye on receiving the #25 jersey against Syracuse. Stay up with The Tech Lunch Pail on Facebook and Twitter, and sign up for our email reminders.
