Hokies Football: Virginia Tech Rises to 18th in the AP Top 25, Drops to 22nd In Coaches Poll

The Virginia Tech Hokies got the job done in an ugly 24-21 win over the Duke Blue Devils to go to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the ACC. The Hokies were far from their best on the road but were able to get the win that they needed to stay in control of their own destiny. Despite the win, the AP and Coaches polls had different reactions to the Hokies' victory. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/795357381152669696 https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/795325040770195456 The Hokies rose from 23rd to 18th in the AP Poll while falling from 21st to 22nd in the Coaches Poll despite their win over Duke. The drop in the Coaches Poll for the Hokies is hard to explain given the fact that they won and multiple other top 25 teams lost to unranked opponents but is likely a symptom of the fact that The Hokies are among the five ACC teams still in the top 25 with Clemson third, Louisville fifth, North Carolina 15th, Virginia Tech 18th, and Florida State 20th. Virginia Tech likely will be even higher in the College Football Playoff rankings since they were 19th last week and multiple teams ahead of them suffered bad losses including Baylor and Florida. The Hokies have established themselves as one of the top 25 teams in America and should steadily rise as long as they keep winning.
