Hokies Football: Jerod Evans Named Semifinalist For Davey O'Brien Award

Jerod Evans didn't officially win the Virginia Tech starting quarterback job until the final weeks before the start of this season but the fears that Evans was not as good as thought have been proven wrong. Instead, Evans has led the Hokies to exceeding all expectations this season with Evans being a big reason why Virginia Tech is 7-2 and 2 home victories away from winning the ACC Coastal and returning to the ACC Championship for the first time since 2011. Today, Jerod Evans received a well-deserved recognition as one of America's best quarterbacks. https://twitter.com/VT_Football/status/796791379712212992 Jerod Evans has been named one of 18 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award which goes to the best quarterback in all of college football. Evans is one of four ACC quarterbacks to receive this honor joining Louisville's Lamar Jackson, Clemson's Deshaun Watson, and North Carolina's Mitch Trubisky. Evans has had a big season for the Hokies so far with 2,203 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and a 61.7 completion percentage while also running for 533 rushing yards and 114 carries plus 4 rushing touchdowns and an average of 4.7 yards per carry. Evans has been quite productive for Virginia Tech this season while also doing a great job of avoiding mistakes with only 2 interceptions so far. Jerod Evans almost certainly won't be one of the three finalists for this award, but the JUCO transfer has been quite impressive in his first season as a Hokie as he continues to gain more national recognition.
