Hokies Football: Virginia Tech Drops Out Of Top 25 In The AP and Coaches Polls

The Virginia Tech Hokies were shocked yesterday 30-20 by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in what was their worst performance of the season as the Hokies were just off while Georgia Tech seemed to fire on all cylinders despite being with Justin Thomas and their top two backs. Unsurprisingly, the AP and Coaches Polls adjusted to the Hokies' disappointing loss in a big way. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/797881707387092992 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/797863382829436929 Virginia Tech dropped out of the top 25 in both the AP and Coaches Poll with Virginia Tech dropping to 28th in the AP Poll and 29th in the Coaches Poll. The drop is unsurprising given the Hokies' disappointing performance yesterday against Georgia Tech with a win at Notre Dame not being a guarantee to get back in the top 25 in part due to some of the teams ahead of them that will be facing weaker competition this upcoming week. What will really be interesting is whether the College Football Playoff committee will rank Virginia Tech with the Hokies being 14th last week. While that would be a large drop, the committee has shown it is unafraid to make a big drop after dropping Florida from 11th to out of their top 25 after a loss to Arkansas. The biggest focus for Virginia Tech now has to be getting things fixed ahead of what could be a difficult challenge at a Notre Dame that has to win its final two games to get to a bowl game before facing rival Virginia only needing a win to go to the ACC Championship and win the Coastal for the first time since 2011.
