Hokies Football: OT Christian Darrisaw Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies suffered a disappointing loss this past week to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 30-20, but that didn't stop many top Virginia Tech recruits from having great visits to Blacksburg. One visit in particular went well enough to get the Hokies' their first 2017 commit since early August. https://twitter.com/Bigdawgchris1/status/798714364496904192 Offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw committed to Virginia Tech this evening after receiving an offer last Friday and visiting Blacksburg this past weekend. Darrisaw is the Hokies' 17th overall commit and third offensive line commit in this class though his offer list is quite short currently with VT being the only FBS program along with Central Connecticut State, Morgan State, and North Carolina Central. Darrisaw is currently unranked by all major recruiting services though that should change after this offer but he has an intriguing frame at 6'5'' and 290 pounds as listed by 247 Sports. Darrisaw is a fairly raw prospect at the offensive tackle spot, but is definitely a guy that also brings a lot of upside, and kind of seems to be in the recruiting mold of guys like Yosuah Nijman and Silas Dzansi who were raw coming out of high school and became four-star recruits after a year of prep. Of course, it is unknown if Darrisaw could end up prepping for a year similar to now Nijman did before committing to VT and how Dzansi did after committing late in the past cycle, but that seems like a possibility. However, Darrisaw does seem like a player with a lot of upside but will need some time before having a chance to break into the offensive line rotation at VT. One interesting connection to keep an eye on is the fact that Darrisaw is teammates with one of the Hokies' top cornerback targets, Tariq Castro-Fields, and has told us that both of them are close. Darrisaw and Castro-Fields visited the Hokies together this past week, and has the potential to potentially tip the scales in the Hokies' favor. The Hokies are starting to heat back up on the recruiting with commitments from 2018 three-star DB Chamarri Conner and 2017 OT Christian Darrisaw so far this month.
