Three Hokies to Watch In the Commonwealth Cup Against Virginia

It's a senior day edition of the 3 Hokies to watch! Let's take a look at who I've got my eyes on against Virginia.

Woody Baron

The defensive line didn't get a huge push against the Irish last week, but Baron did make an impact later in the game. He recorded his 17th tackle for loss of the season and applied pressure in the backfield that led to several different issues for the Notre Dame quarterback. His quickness and elusiveness is some of the best on the Hokies defensive line, and Coach Foster has praised it as such. Baron has improved his playing ability throughout his career, but his senior year has been leagues above where he has been in the past couple years. Look for him to have one of his best games against a weak UVA football team. I wouldn't be surprised to see him push his tackles for loss total upwards of 20 or 21 -- especially if he continues to play like he has in recent games.

Sam Rogers

There might not be a more appropriate recipient for the #25 jersey on Senior Day. His entire Hokie career has been tough-nosed, hard-working, and team-centered. From beginning as a walk-on to earning a scholarship in his freshman year, and becoming one of the most versatile players as a senior, Rogers is a true Hokie. I fully expect him to continue his play as one of the most dependable players on the offense. Even though he doesn't play on special teams, he has earned the #25 and I expect him to play like that against the 'Hoos. There won't be anything special out of him, just the same non-stop, energetic, physical play all over the field.

Chuck Clark

Along with good defensive line play, the Hokies have had good defensive backs show up this season as well. There is lots of youth for the Hokies in that position group, but Chuck Clark has helped teach the younger players the tradition of DBU. He has quietly been one of the best and most physical players on this defensive unit, and I expect to see much of the same in the final home game against UVA. Look for him to cause havoc in the receiving corps for the 'Hoos and don't be surprised to see a turnover caused by the athletic senior. Emotions will be running high in the rivalry game, and Clark is known to be one of the hardest hitters on the team so look for some big hits as well. The game should be a fun one, and Clark will be a major part of that. Stay up with The Tech Lunch Pail for the latest on the Hokies via Facebook and Twitter plus subscribe to our email updates.
