Three-Star RB Jalen Holston Commits to Virginia Tech

After not getting a single, on-scholarship running back commit from their Class of 2016, the Virginia Tech Hokies have put an emphasis on getting at least one of their top 2 running back targets. Since four-star RB Khalan Laborn committed to Florida State, there has been no doubt that three-star running back Jalen Holston has been the top running back on the board and one of the Hokies' top targets. Today, Holston made the announcement that many analysts have been expecting and fans have been hoping for. https://twitter.com/HoodrichJay4/status/807028803511996416 Three-star RB Jalen Holston from Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, Georgia committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies today. The Hokies were one of a very impressive list of schools to have offered Holston that also includes South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Duke, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Mississippi State, NC State, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, Purdue, Rutgers, and numerous other programs. Most major sites have Holston as a three-star recruit with ESPN having Holston as a four-star with a chance that Holston may end up being an average four-star recruit by National Signing Day. Holston is ranked as the 35th best running back by ESPN, 37th best RB by the 247 Sports Composite, 51st best RB by 247 Sports, and 48th best RB by Rivals. Holston is also ranked as a top 85 recruit by all four rankings in the state of Georgia with ESPN having him the highest at 44th. For a while, the Hokies have been the frontrunners with RBs coach Zohn Burden leading the charge to get his commitment. While Holston has seemed very close to committing the Hokies for a while now, the Georgia running back has now decided to pull the trigger now, meaning that the Hokies' class is close to being done offensively outside of the offensive line and possibly another running back. Holston has been a must get recruit for the Hokies since Khalan Laborn committed to Florida State, and Justin Fuente and his staff have done a great job closing the deal to get Holston. With Virginia Tech not having one dominant ball carrier this year, Holston definitely has the potential to come in and compete for playing time immediately with Travon McMillian, Steven Peoples, and Marshawn Williams, who will be coming off another injury recovery. Based on the 247 Sports database, this is Zohn Burden's fourth commit as the primary recruiter and fifth overall with having any role as Burden is slowly but steadily developing into one of the ACC's top recruiters. Burden should start gaining some national notice for his recruiting ability especially if he can close the deal for Virginia Tech's number 1 2017 target, Devon Hunter.
