2017 P/K Jordan Stout Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies failed to hold on to a couple of their top kicking and punting targets this past recruiting cycle, putting a greater emphasis on making sure they got their top target among punting and kicking prospects. The man that emerged fairly quickly as that guy was Jordan Stout from Honaker, Virginia with the Hokies extending the 2017 recruit a preferred walk-on offer. Today, the Hokies received some good news. https://twitter.com/Jordan_Stout8/status/811414046138368000 P/K Jordan Stout announced that he has committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies this evening. Virginia Tech seemed to be in the driver's seat of Stout's recruitment from the moment they offered him and special teams coordinator James Shibest will likely be very happy to have Stout in the bag with it being extremely unlikely that the Southwest Virginia native flips his commitment elsewhere. Stout is rated as a five-star punter and 4.5 star kicker by well-known special teams scouting site Kohl's Kicking with Kohl's having him as the 21st best punter and 52nd kicker in the nation. Morehead State is the only other offer listed by Kohl's Kicking though that may be due in part to how the Hokies have the in-state tuition advantage along with being the local school that had the inside track. Stout is a very good walk-on addition for the Hokies, and definitely could end up pushing Mitchell Ludwig next season to be the starting punter though his versatility likely will get him practice reps at both kicker and punter especially with Joey Slye only having one year of eligibility yet. His scouting report highlights how he has a big leg, and he definitely seems like Virginia Tech's future kickoff man after Slye's graduation. Jordan Stout is a bigger than normal walk-on addition for the Hokies at a spot that needed it after being unable to hold on to a couple of guys last season.
