Post-Commitment Q&A With Virginia Tech P/K Commit Jordan Stout

This past week, Virginia Tech gained an important walk-on commitment from Honaker, VA P/K Jordan Stout who was rated as the 21st best punter and 52nd best kicker by Kohl's Kicking, the premier site for rating kickers and punters. Despite being a preferred walk-on offer, Stout was definitely an important commit for the Hokies to get after failing to hold on to their top kicker and punter targets from the 2016 class. After his commitment, Jordan Stout agreed to participate in a post-commitment Q&A with us to talk about his decision and why he chose Virginia Tech. Q: Why did you choose to commit to Virginia Tech? Jordan Stout: There is a very good situation with the kicker and punter both leaving next year so I can redshirt and then earn the job next year. Q: Does Virginia Tech plan to start you at kicker or punter, or will you split reps at both? JS: I will earn one of the jobs and if I am the best at both, I could earn the chance to do everything. Q: What other schools had extended walk-on offers to you? JS: About 4 or 5 schools told me there would be a scholarship available for me after I committed to VT. Q: Has that made you reconsider your commitment at all or have you shut down your recruitment? JS: As of now I am fully committed to Virginia Tech. Q: How big of an impact did special teams coordinator James Shibest have on your recruitment? JS: A huge part, he showed me a little glimpse of what's it's like to be a Hokie. He has always been up front and told me how things were; he never lied to me and that is a big part of why I chose VT. Q: How important was Justin Fuente in your recruitment? JS: I didn't speak with Fuente much but the way he carried himself and his compassion for the team was all he needed to show me. I know he is a great man with a family and has a plan for the future. I'm glad he is going to be my head coach. Q: What other factors played an important role in your commitment? JS: The fact that Virginia Tech is only 2 hours from my home was a huge factor. Also, my entire family has always been huge Tech fans. Q: Coming from Southwest Virginia, how much pride do you take in getting to play at VT? JS: It means a lot especially with my Pawpaw being one of the biggest Tech fans on the planet and raising me to like them as much as he did, he passed away a couple of years ago but I know he is proud of me. We would like to thank Jordan Stout in participating in this post-commitment Q&A with us.
