Virginia Tech Makes the Cut For USF Transfer Jahmal McMurray

Right at the beginning of his tenure, Buzz Williams looked to the transfer market to improve Virginia Tech's talent level, and he was able to do exactly that bringing in Zach LeDay from USF and Seth Allen from Maryland. Now, the Hokies are in strong position to make the NCAA Tournament in year 3 of the Buzz Williams after finishing in the cellar of the ACC for four straight years including the first year of the Buzz Williams era. Williams has continued to keep an eye on the transfer market, and the Hokies are now in the hunt for a mid-season transfer. https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/812371009324007424 USF guard Jahmal McMurray is considering seven schools including Virginia Tech, Texas, Arizona State, St. John's, Western Kentucky, New Mexico State, and UNC-Wilmington. McMurray was suspended for the first six games of this season and returned for only three games before deciding to transfer while averaging 20.3 points in those games including 25 points against a ranked South Carolina. The big concern with McMurray is why was he suspended for six games to start the season though indications are that it wasn't anything major though if there is something major for that suspension, it likely will lower the number of interested teams. Also, all indications are that McMurray wasn't about to face another suspension but that his decision to transfer was purely his own. McMurray would be an interesting pickup as while he would have to sit out a year but because he is a mid-year transfer, he may be eligible to play as soon as the second half of next season if he is able to enroll in the spring and if so, he would join a team that should have tons of backcourt depth with Seth Allen and Devin Wilson graduating, and being replaced by Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Wabissa Bede. However, McMurray is a very good scorer and that is something that can be hard to pass up especially if his shooting numbers in three games this season can be replicated in the ACC. What we also know is that Buzz Williams will make sure he is a fit in his locker room and if he isn't, don't be surprised to see the Hokies drop out of the hunt almost immediately. At this point, McMurray is still early on but with him being a mid-season transfer, he will likely make a decision in the next couple weeks with the plan on enrolling at his new school this spring.
