Patterson is seen as one of the top 20 dual-threat QBs and top 10 Illinois recruits by 247 Sports, Rivals, and the 247 Sports Composite with a long list of offers so far. Early on, Virginia Tech is in good position with the three-star Chicago QB. Quincy Patterson told us that five schools are standing out for him early including Virginia Tech, NC State, Iowa, Syracuse, and Illinois with that list subject to change as his recruitment and offer list changes. Patterson also told us that he plans to commit sometime over the summer while also saying that he currently plans to take visits to Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, and Virginia. Of the five schools that make up the schools that stand out to him, only Iowa wasn't among the group in contact with him the most while Patterson also included UNC, UVA, Rutgers, and Northern Illinois among the group that is in contact with him the most. This is what Patterson told us specifically on why each of those five schools stand out to him. Virginia Tech: "Have great relationship with Coach Fuente, have a great team, have a history of sending players to the league, and campus is beautiful" NC State: "Have great relationship with the coaches, their engineering college is amazing." Iowa: "Have always had a great team, great coaches, excellent morals, and campus is amazing. Syracuse: "I have a great relationship with the coaches, they're notorious for doing great things, and they are one of the top academic colleges in the country." Illinois: "Know all of their coaches, close, campus is beautiful, they're rebuilding, and I see a bright future for them." Quarterback recruitments always seem a little different from most recruitments as QBs don't seem to usually be as insistent on staying in-state in a lot of cases or close to home in some cases with Virginia Tech having pulled Josh Jackson from Michigan, Jerod Evans from JUCO in Texas, and even Dwayne Lawson from Florida in the past. However, it's hard not to think that Illinois is possibly the slight favorite here given their in-state advantage, but the Hokies clearly have a chance to make a play here with Justin Fuente already having a strong relationship with Patterson. Iowa also seems likely to be a big threat given how the Hawkeyes weren't on Patterson's list of the schools that have been in contact with him the most but if they turn up the intensity of their interest, that could be a sign that they could be hard to beat. Quincy Patterson's recruitment still has a lot left but Virginia Tech is off to a great start and with Patterson visiting Virginia Tech this weekend, the Hokies have a great opportunity to make a big move that could put them in a position to gain his commitment this summer.
