When news broke Saturday that Dresser was the top candidate at Iowa State, nerves rose immediately with many wondering if this opportunity to go home to his native state of Iowa might be enough to take him away from Blacksburg. To the disappointment of many Hokie fans, that has proven to be the case. Kevin Dresser announced today that he will be leaving Virginia Tech to take over as the head coach at Iowa State with assistant Tony Robie taking over for the rest of the season. News broke Saturday afternoon that Iowa State had offered Dresser with one report stating that Dresser had already accepted the Iowa State job (which turned out to be inaccurate) with Dresser putting out a statement yesterday that he would announce his decision this afternoon. Whit Babcock told media that he will wait till after the NCAA Championships to hire a new head coach. Babcock's decision to wait gives interim head coach Tony Robie a chance to prove that he should be hired full-time as the head coach to replace Kevin Dresser. https://twitter.com/RTD_MikeBarber/status/833789157717729280 Dresser had an impressive tenure in Blacksburg as he led the Hokies to three-straight ACC Dual Meet titles, two ACC Team Championships, and fourth place last year at the NCAA Championships. Dresser has built Virginia Tech into one of America's best wrestling programs and has developed Blacksburg into the biggest wrestling town south of the Mason-Dixon line and east of the Mississippi River.
