Throughout the 2016-2017 season, the Hokies did what they needed to avoiding a bad loss while picking up quality wins over teams like Duke, Virginia, Michigan, and Miami. Now, the Hokies will be a part of March Madness again for the first time in a decade. Virginia Tech will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007, earning one of the 36 at-large bids to the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Hokies are the 9 seed in the East Region and will face 8 seed Wisconsin in Buffalo, NY. A win would men that the Hokies would most likely face top seed and defending national champ Villanova in the second round. The Hokies and Badgers will play 30 minutes after Villanova-Mount Saint Mary's/New Orleans at approximately 9:40pm on CBS. The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee did release their seed ranking which had Wisconsin as the highest 8 seed (27th overall) and Virginia Tech as the lowest 9 seed (36th overall).
