Jerod Evans Signs With The Philadelphia Eagles

Jerod Evans surprised a lot of people when he decided to leave Virginia Tech early for the 2017 NFL Draft but most expected that Evans would end up being drafted even as it became clear that he wouldn't be drafted before day 3. However, Evans ended up being one of almost 30 underclassmen to go undrafted and the only early entrant quarterback to not be selected in this year's draft. However, Jerod Evans will get his chance in the NFL. https://twitter.com/OptimumScouting/status/859459005428756482 Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting has reported that Jerod Evans has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Evans will now compete to earn a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster though that may be difficult given how Doug Pederson usually keeps only two quarterbacks and has Carson Wentz and Nick Foles already. However, Evans could be tempting to keep as a developmental third guy though he could also end up on the Eagles' practice squad for a year before he pushes for the backup job. Evans had a tremendous season in Blacksburg breaking records across the board while leading the Hokies in passing and rushing with 3,546 passing yards, 63.5 completion percentage, 29 passing touchdowns, and 8 interceptions along with 846 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. Evans showed a lot of upside as a big, mobile quarterback that has a great arm but has a lot of work to in terms of developing as a passer with his accuracy, his pocket awareness, and his ability to go through his reads and not just focus on receiver and then take off and run. Jerod Evans now has a great opportunity to work with a quality quarterback developer in Doug Pederson in a low-pressure situation where he will have plenty of time to develop in what may actually be a very good situation for Evans in the long run. Congrats to Jerod Evans on signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
