Virginia Tech Set To Face Notre Dame Seven Times In Next Two Decades

VT Notre Dame 1
When the Notre Dame Fighting Irish joined the ACC in all sports except basketball, it gave each ACC school the chance to play the Fighting Irish fairly often as a high-quality non-conference game with Notre Dame being required to at least play 4-5 ACC school every year as a part of the deal. Yesterday, the ACC announced the schedule of ACC opponents for Notre Dame over quite a long period of time. https://twitter.com/HokiesFB/status/862672454312972288 Virginia Tech will play Notre Dame 7 times in the next 2 decades as while the Hokies were already scheduled to host Notre Dame in 2018 and 2021 along with a trip to South Bend in 2019, VT will also travel to Notre Dame in 2027 and 2033 with the Hokies hosting the Fighting Irish in 2028 and in 2036. One other unique thing that came from this schedule was the announcement that the 2036 game between Virginia Tech and Notre Dame would be on Labor Day night, a move that is ridiculous given how that game is over 19 years away and that some of the players that will play in that game have not been born yet. For Virginia Tech, the Hokies continue to see their future schedules that are more than 10 years down the road have games added to them with games against Maryland and Arizona already being on the schedule between 2026 and 2030. However, this means that from 2020 to 2029, the Hokies already are guaranteed to play at least 2 power 5 non-conference opponents in 8 of those 10 seasons with open spots in 2022 and 2026 creating opportunities for a second power 5 team to be added to the non-conference slate. Virginia Tech will also look to expand their series advantage over the Fighting Irish in these 7 future games after winning the first ever matchup between these two schools with a 34-31 comeback victory in South Bend that was one of the signature moments of the Hokies' 2016 season and also guaranteed that Notre Dame would not be going to a bowl game. The trend of scheduling opponents as far as 20 years out has continued in college football with this latest scheduling of ACC vs. Notre Dame games being to an extreme unlike no other with VT-Notre Dame already even being scheduled for a specific date in 2036.
