Virginia Tech Will Hold Six Satellite Camps This June

IMG 7324
Satellite camps have become a normal thing over the past few years in the college football with most power 5 programs hosting several camps across the country in search of the hidden gems that could prove to be a game-changing recruit. Last year's camps helped the Hokies find a few hidden gems including Malik Willis who committed not long after their Atlanta camp to VT before flipping to Auburn during the holiday season. After the success of last year's camps, Justin Fuente and the Hokies will be hitting the road again this June. https://twitter.com/RickyLaBlue/status/867807630642872320 Virginia Tech will participate in six satellite camps from June 5th to June 13th across four states. VT will once again be participating in camps in New Jersey, Atlanta, Richmond, Washington D.C., and the 757 while also adding a camp in Jacksonville. The locations make a lot of sense for the Hokies as VT will be hosting camps in Virginia's three biggest football recruiting hotbeds while also maintaining that New Jersey and Georgia are recruiting priorities especially after VT brought in plenty of Georgia recruits in 2017 (Jalen Holston, Jaylen Griffin, Lecitus Smith) and getting Bryce Watts out of New Jersey. The addition of Jacksonville makes a lot of sense as the Hokies definitely have made Florida high priority on the recruiting trail traditionally and will definitely look for the latest gems in a city where VT got Isaiah Ford from. The Florida camp should also give the Hokies a chance to evaluate some recruits in Central Florida from places like Orlando and possibly Tampa depending on how many recruits are willing to make the trip to Jacksonville. The one surprise may be that VT isn't hosting a camp in North Carolina but with Blacksburg being closer to Charlotte and Greensboro than Richmond, Washington D.C., and the 757; it's easier and more desirable for the Hokies to try to simply get recruits on campus instead of using extra resources that can go towards camps in farther away places like Florida and New Jersey. One other interesting tidbit is that the Washington D.C. camp will be done at Howard University where former UVA head coach Mike London is in charge. It will also be interesting to see how the Hokies split their staff for the New Jersey and Jacksonville camps that are on the same day with it being likely that the area recruiters for those regions will be at their specific area's camp but unknown how Justin Fuente and the rest of the staff will split where they go. Below is the schedule and locations for the Hokies' 2017 satellite camps.
  • Richmond camp: June 5th, Randolph-Macon College
  • Atlanta camp: June 6th, Clark Atlanta University
  • New Jersey camp: June 7th, Monmouth University
  • Jacksonville camp: June 7th, Jacksonville University
  • Washington D.C. camp: June 12th, Howard University
  • 757 camp: June 13th, Hampton University
