The Virginia Tech Hokies are building a strong 2018 recruiting class with the Hokies having 7 commits so far including 1 from North Carolina in three-star DT Joe Kane. Virginia Tech is making North Carolina a top priority in the 2018 class as VT hopes to bring in a large group of NC recruits and have been making that push quite public with the #NC2VT campaign.
The Hokies are in good shape for a lot of top North Carolina recruits including a former NC State commit.
Three-star athlete Nadir Thompson of Bailey, NC tweeted out his top 5 this evening which included Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, and ECU. Thompson also left a couple of power 5 offers out of his top 5 including Wake Forest and NC State where he decommitted from in late April.
Thompson is fairly well-regarded across recruiting services with Thompson being ranked as the 27th best North Carolina recruit by Rivals, 22nd best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 18th best by 247 Sports. Thompson is also ranked as the 53rd best athlete by the 247 Sports Composite and 35th best by 247 Sports while Rivals has him as an all-purpose back which he is not expected to be if he were to choose Virginia Tech.
The Hokies appear to be a frontrunner for Nadir Thompson and have been making a big push for him even while he was still committed to NC State. As soon as he decommitted, VT became the favorite for Thompson with UNC and Duke definitely looming as contenders due to them being the two most successful in-state schools in football over the past few years.
Nadir Thompson also tweeted out that he plans to visit all of his top 5 this summer. With Thompson planning to visit his whole top 5 this summer, it appears that the three-star athlete may be looking to make a decision before the fall.
