The Virginia Tech Hokies have gained commitments at almost every position on offense and defense except running back and tight end. Today, the Hokies gained their first 2018 running back commit. https://twitter.com/Caleb_Steward/status/882267803096682497 Three-star RB Caleb Steward out of Jacksonville, Florida committed to Virginia Tech over South Florida. The talented running back also has offers from multiple other power five schools including Boston College, Purdue, Duke, and Wake Forest in addition to a multitude of Group of Five schools. Steward is the first running back commit for the Hokies along with being VT's third Florida commit in this class joining three-star DBs Chamarri Conner and Braxton Clark. Steward is ranked as the 70th best RB by the 247 Sports Composite and 43rd best by 247 Sports while among Florida recruits, Steward is ranked 170th best by the 247 Sports Composite and 117th best by 247 Sports. Steward is a big get for Zohn Burden and the Hokies as Burden now has some momentum with two recent commitments as the primary recruiter from Steward and three-star ATH Armani Chatman. More than that, Steward had moved to the top of the board for the Hokies at RB over some more well-known names, and had become a very high priority for Justin Fuente and VT. Steward is also a big get for the Hokies in how this is VT's first RB commit and potentially only depending on what happens with Mataeo Durant and if other earlier targets stay firm or not in their commitments. Getting beat out for another RB target would have been a tough pill for the Hokies especially since it would have been to a Group of 5 school even with that school being in-state USF. Virginia Tech also continues to have lots of success in Florida with three commits from there this cycle along with two specifically from the Jacksonville area in Caleb Steward and Chamarri Conner. After Virginia and North Carolina, there isn't a state that is a higher priority than Florida, and the Hokies are continuing to find talented recruits in the Sunshine State. Congrats to Caleb Steward on his commitment to Virginia Tech.
