Virginia Tech Will Face Presbyterian In Non-Conference Play

VT Students Miami 1
The Virginia Tech Hokies are putting together their best non-conference schedule since Buzz Williams arrived in Blacksburg with road games at Kentucky and Ole Miss, an ACC-Big 10 Challenge home game against Iowa, and two games in the 2K Sports Classic. Today, we found out who else the Hokies will face in non-conference play via renowned college basketball insider Jon Rothstein. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/882564194566111239 Virginia Tech will play Presbyterian this fall according to Rothstein's tweet this morning. This will be the second time Virginia Tech and Presbyterian have faced off with the first time coming in Buzz Williams's first season in Blacksburg as the Hokies beat the Blue Hose 87-65 led by 18 points from Ahmed Hill. After going 5-25 last season, Presbyterian made a coaching change hiring Wofford assistant Dustin Kerns as they look for their first winning season as a Division I school (2007-2008 was first season). This game will be one of the Hokies' weakest opponents on their non-conference schedule especially with Presbyterian coming off a rough 2016-2017 season with a new head coach. This game gives Presbyterian a chance to gain some valuable experience facing a talented Virginia Tech team while also being likely to bring in some sort of financial compensation for playing the Hokies. This game also should be an opportunity for Buzz Williams to get his younger players more playing time than normal which could prove valuable in ACC play especially with VT likely to have a deep, but somewhat young bench. With more of the Hokies' non-conference schedule leaking, it only should be a matter of time before we see a full announcement of Virginia Tech's 2017-2018 non-conference basketball schedule.
