VT LB Tremaine Edmunds Named to 2017 Bednarik Award Watch List

With football season starting in less than 2 months, we have entered the season of preseason award watch lists, preseason all-conference teams, and preseason All-America teams.

Today, the award watch lists began with one Hokie being named to the Bednarik Award Watch list.

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was one of 85 players named to the Bednarik Award watch list. The Bednarik Award goes to the top defensive in college football with Edmunds definitely having the talent to be a sleeper for this award this season.

This honor is not a surprise whatsoever for Edmunds after having an impressive sophomore season with 106 tackles, 18.5 total tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 9 QB hurries, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, and 3 pass breakups on his way to earning Second Team All-ACC honors.

Edmunds is one of the most talented linebackers Bud Foster has ever had with tremendous athleticism along with a high football IQ that has made him a defensive playmaker who received Third Team Preseason All-American honors from Athlon Sports and will almost certainly make the Preseason All-ACC team later this week.

With this just being the first major watch list released, expect this to not be the last time this week that a Hokie makes a watch list or the last time Edmunds makes one.

Congrats to Tremaine Edmunds on making the Bednarik Award watch list.
