Tremaine Edmunds was named to the Butkus Award watch list (award for the best LB) while Greg Stroman was named to the Paul Hornung watch list (award for the most versatile player).
Edmunds has now been named to three watch lists over the past several days while this is Stroman’s second appearance on a watch list in these past 2 weeks. Edmunds is also one of 51 LBs named to the Butkus Award watch list while Stroman is one of 46 players named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list.
Both of these recognitions aren’t surprising as Edmunds is definitely one of the top linebackers in America while Stroman has become a productive cornerback and punt returner.
Edmunds and Stroman have both received plenty of recognition lately coming off seasons in which Edmunds was named to the All-ACC Second Team last season while Stroman was also named to the All-ACC Second Team by the coaches and Third Team by the media.
All of these honors are well-deserved after Edmunds had 106 tackles, 18.5 total tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 9 QB hurries, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, and 3 pass breakups as a sophomore while Stroman had 13 tackles, 3 interceptions, 10 pass breakups, a blocked kick, 1 punt return for a touchdown, an average of 8.8 yards per punt return, and an average of 20.9 yards per kick return in only 11 games including 9 starts as a junior.
With the Preseason All-ACC team being announced this week, both Edmunds and Stroman are top candidates to receive conference-wide recognition after their impressive 2016 seasons.
Congrats to Tremaine Edmunds on being named to the Butkus Award watch list, and Greg Stroman on being named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list.
