Virginia Tech Picked to Finish Second in ACC Coastal

IMG 7324
The ACC has released the media's predictions today for who will win the ACC along with the projected finishing order of each division. This year, the ACSMA are predicting that there will be 2 new teams in the ACC Championship this year. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/886964510229229569 Virginia Tech was picked to finish second in the ACC Coastal as the ACSMA predicted that Miami will win the Coastal with Florida State winning the Atlantic. The Hokies received 40 first-place Coastal votes and 3 votes to win the whole ACC while Miami led the way with the most votes to win the Coastal (103) with Florida State having the most votes to win the ACC (121). These predictions aren't a surprise as Miami has received tons of praise with many once again belieiving that this will be the year Miami breaks through and wins the Coastal for the first time. Both the Hokies and Canes should have 2 of America's best defenses along with having new starting QBs that should make things interesting. Outside of Duke getting a vote to win the ACC, no one should be surprised about the five schools that received multiple votes to win the ACC with Florida State being the clear favorite returning a team loaded with playmakers on both sides of the ball including starting QB Deondre Francois.

There's no doubt that the Hokies are one of the premier teams in the ACC and on paper, the early November showdown between the Hokies and Canes will likely decide the winner of the Coastal and be the division's premier matchup no matter how the Hokies fare against Clemson or Miami does against FSU. If both teams are as good as expected though, there's a chance both may only have one loss at most, making their showdown a potential elimination game for the College Football Playoff.

If I had a vote, here's how my predictions would look.

ACC Atlantic

  1. Florida State
  2. Clemson
  3. Louisville
  4. NC State
  5. Syracuse
  6. Wake Forest
  7. Boston College

ACC Coastal

  1. Virginia Tech
  2. Miami
  3. Duke
  4. Georgia Tech
  5. North Carolina
  6. Pittsburgh
  7. Virginia

ACC Championship: Florida State over Virginia Tech

Both divisions should be quite competitive as Clemson and Louisville will both push FSU while VT and Miami will battle it out in the Coastal with Duke being vastly underrated and the sleeper to win the Coastal. VT's elite defense and Justin Fuente's history with developing QBs helps me pick the Hokies to win the Coastal, but FSU has an elite team that is my pick to win the ACC. One other interesting note is that once again, 6 of the 7 Coastal teams received at least one vote to win the Coastal. The only team that didn't receive a vote: Virginia.
