Buzz Williams and the Virginia Tech Hokies will once again play in an early-season tournament, the 2017 2K Classic. Today, the Hokies found out their opponent in the semifinals along with the 2 teams that they will face at Cassell Coliseum in games set up through this tournament. https://twitter.com/2KClassic/status/887008551620796420 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/887014186613710852 Virginia Tech will face Saint Louis in one semifinal of the 2017 2K Classic with Washington and Providence facing off in the other semifinal. Virginia Tech will also host Detroit Mercy on November 10th and Houston Baptist on November 21st. The Hokies will likely enter this tournament as the favorite as a borderline top 25 with VT also receiving what is probably the easiest draw they could have gotten for the semifinals with Saint Louis. However, Saint Louis is still a solid Atlantic 10 program and this tournament gives VT a great chance to get two good resume wins against Saint Louis and Providence/Washington as long as Saint Louis is better than last year's team that was 12-21 overall including 6-12 in the A-10. The Hokies also have a couple more games of their non-conference schedule with Detroit possibly being the Hokies' season opener while Houston Baptist is a solid addition after they went 12-6 in the Southland conference and 17-14 overall. The disappointing thing is that the Hokies won't get to host Belmont, a smaller program that has been quite good under Rick Byrd and would have been a great addition to the schedule as a team that should have a good RPI along with having recognition among the Hokies more diehard fans.
