Cam Phillips, Joey Slye Make Watch Lists

The Virginia Tech Hokies continue to have players make watch lists with Tremaine Edmunds making the Butkus Award watch list and Greg Stroman making the Paul Hornung Award watch list just yesterday. Today, two more Hokies made watch lists with it being the first for VT's offensive star and third for the Hokies' veteran kicker. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/887314269724971010 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/887314566186663936 Cam Phillips was one of 45 WRs named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list (best WR) while Joey Slye was one of 109 players named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list (award for football and community service). Neither recognition is a surprise as Phillips is one of the ACC's top returning receivers while Slye not only has been good on the field but has done a lot off the field raising money for cancer research in honor of his brother. Phillips was impressive in 2016 with a breakout junior season in which he had 76 receptions for 983 receiving yards, 5 receiving touchdowns, and an average of 12.9 yards per reception while also running for 140 yards on 30 carries and earning Belk Bowl MVP honors. Phillips has the chance to break two of Isaiah Ford's career receiving records as he only needs 46 receptions to pass Ford for the most receptions in school history along with 905 yards to break Ford's receiving yards record. Slye had a solid junior season making 20 of 27 field goal attempts, 58 of 59 extra point attempts, and having 73 touchbacks on 93 kickoffs. While Slye's has played well on the field, his off-the-field work has been more impressive with Slye raising thousands of dollars and hosting fundraising events for cancer research in honor of his brother AJ Slye who passed away from cancer. This is the second time Slye has made a watch list that is related to what a player does off the field and is well-deserved for a man who has great character and a huge passion for fighting for a cure for cancer. Congrats to Cam Phillips on being named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, and Joey Slye on being named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list.
