Virginia Tech Ranked 21st in Preseason AP Poll

College football is less than two weeks away as teams across the country are starting to prepare for their opening games. The Hokies have one of the final games of the opening weekend on Labor Day Eve against West Virginia and going into that game, both teams will be ranked. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/899667268623355904 Virginia Tech was ranked 21st in the Preseason AP Poll, one spot ahead of 22nd-ranked West Virginia. Two other VT opponents are also ranked with Clemson at #5 and Miami at #18 while fellow ACC schools Florida State (#3) and Louisville (#16) are also ranked. This is the first time the Hokies have been ranked preseason since 2012 and a great sign of the quick progress Justin Fuente has made in Blacksburg. This is also the first opening game featuring two ranked teams that the Hokies have played in since Virginia Tech lost to third-ranked Boise State in 2010 at FedEx Field. Going into this season, the Hokies won't be flying under the radar after their best season since 2011 even with a new starting QB in Josh Jackson. However, Virginia Tech does have one of America's best defenses, helping then earn their preseason top 25 rankings in both the AP and Coaches Polls. While the Hokies may be ranked, Justin Fuente will be making sure his team earns their ranking especially after he said yesterday that he didn't put VT in his top 25 for the Coaches Poll. Congrats to Virginia Tech on being ranked in the Preseason AP top 25.
