Virginia Tech Jumps to 18th in the AP and Coaches Polls

Entrance 2
The Virginia Tech Hokies started off the season with a big 31-24 victory over #22 West Virginia. The win was one of the best of the weekend across college football and set the Hokies up for a jump in the polls this week. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/905131175680888832 https://twitter.com/YahooDrSaturday/status/905129428639993858 https://twitter.com/JHutchinsonVT/status/905123254074998786 Virginia Tech is up three spots in the AP Poll this week from 21st to 18th while jumping four spots in the Coaches Poll from 22nd to 18th. These jumps aren't a surprise given the Hokies' impressive win over West Virginia. However, it is a little surprising not to see them climb higher especially with Louisville nearly being upset by Purdue and Miami getting off to a slow start against Bethune-Cookman. Five teams are in the AP top 25 from the ACC led by Clemson at #3 and Florida State at #10. The Seminoles' drop was due largely to the news that their starting QB Deondre Francois will be out for the season. Louisville followed those top 2 at #16 with Miami and Virginia Tech coming in right behind them at #17 and #18. These three teams are definitely quite close on paper currently though the Hokies are the most proven at this point. Pittsburgh was the only other ACC team to receive a vote in the poll with 1, 25th placed vote. The Hokies have an easy schedule till they face Clemson starting with Delaware this Saturday. After that, the Hokies travel to an East Carolina team that was beat by 20 by JMU this weekend. Then, the Hokies will host Old Dominion, who won their opener over Albany by 14. If the Hokies can take care of business over these next three games, there's a good chance that they will be in the top 10-12 when they host Clemson on September 30th. Virginia Tech is on the rise and as long as they take care of business these next 3 weeks, they should continuing to steadily climb the rankings.
